Hands up those who know how to play Baccarat. As I thought, not many of you. Here at O.P.A we are struggling to find anyone who knows how to play the game so we sent out our top games master to find out more.....
Most people have heard of Baccarat. Some of you will be thinking that he is a singer from the 1950´s and 60´s but you would have been confused with Burt Bacharach. The name sounds similar but they are not the same thing. Baccarat is in fact a card game originally from France (do they do nothing but invent casino games) but do we know how to play it?
In this section we will be focusing on the rules of Baccarat while "Raindrops keep fallin´ on my head" softly plays in the background.
 Baccarat is a casino game where players play against the house. It is a game that is not too much fun unless you are betting on it. Unlike most card games, baccarat uses 3 decks all shuffled together. The Dealer deals each player individually 2 cards face down inclucing him/herself. Players examin their cards then place their bets against the house. The dealer playes against each player separately.
Players add up the total of their cards to try and score an eight or nine. The value of the cards are as so : Ace = 1, Jack, Queen and King = 0 and all other cards are taken at face value.
If players have a 9 or an 8, known as a "Natural" and the dealer does not, then they are paid out. If the two cards add up to more than 10, ie. 6 and 7, which equals 13, then anything over the score of 10 is used. So, 6 +7 = 13, the players score will become 3.
If nobody has a natural, players will then be dealt another card face-up. Players then try to get as close to 8 or 9 as possible without going over. Once a player sticks with what they have the dealer deals his/her own hand with all the cards facing up. He/she has to get as close to 8 or 9 than they think the other players have without going over.
Scoring : If a player and the dealer both get a hand of 8 or 9 then 9 will always beat the 8. If the dealer and players get the same then the bets are off.
Betting : The limit for betting should always be pre-set. If players are dealt more than the 2 original cards then the stakes can be increased before the turn of the new cards.
Variations : The most popular variation of baccarat is Chemis-de-fer, which the dealer plays only against the player who has made the biggest bet. All other players then have the choice to bet alongside the player or drop out of the game.
So, now we all have a little bit of knowledge about the casino game of Baccarat. We also know that it is not a singer from the 50´s, 60´s or 70´s. |
