A game that is so bad?
The game of Craps is said to have originated in France. It was known as Crapaud which means toad. Why it was called this is yet to be explained. It is said to owe it´s popularity to the African-American community in and around New Orleans when it was introduced there by Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville, scion of wealthy Louisiana landowners and a gambler and politician. Could be true, may just be a rumour, I don´t know.
Anyhow, Craps is played by several players at the same time and every player plays against the casino. Unlike most casino games, the craps table is one big party with plenty of shouting and merriment. There is one bit of etiqette that should be followed and that is not to ask too many questions about the rules and how to play. If you really want to know, most casinos will have sessions for you to go to and learn, spend some time knowing the rules then you will be able to join in the fun with the rest.
The rules for craps don´t change so, wherever you are playing craps you can be sure that you know what the rules are. This also applies to online casinos.
Players take it in turns to roll two dice along a long oblong table with walls. The player rolling the dice is called the "Shooter" and the game is played in rounds. The first roll of every new new round called the "Come-Out" roll.
Players bet against the casino on the outcome of one or a series of rolls of the dice. Players make any number of bets, most betting on the out come of the round.
Other bets include betting on a total of the rolled dice or the total of a roll before a seven.
There are 4 employees that are in charge of the craps table, these include :
- The Boxman : Guards the chips and supervises the Dealers.
- The Dealers : Two Dealers stand either side of the Boxman who collects the bets and pays out winnings.
- The Stickman : Not a man made from a stick but a real man who stands opposite the Boxman and Dealers and announces the result of the throw, and who collects the dice with a long wooden stick. "What´s on the end of the stick?" I think it could be ferret sweat. He is also in charge of the bets.
